Healthy Lifestyle Journey Week 7

Last week we went out of town to check out all the sites around SanFrancisco. We walked everywhere. One day we walked 25,000 steps. However, I ate a lot of dense food. It was hard to find fast, healthy options. I really didn’t want to weigh myself today. I felt like I had messed up my routine.

I turned to the coach on the Noom app because I felt so discouraged by my eating choices. I felt like I was starting over once I came home. The coach reminded me of the skills I had been taught and to stay positive. This was very helpful to me.

I returned home from our vacation, hit the grocery store and stocked up my fridge with lots of fruits and vegetables.

Yesterday, I got back on my Nordic Elliptical. It was tough, but I pushed through it and made it to 1,000 revolutions. I even followed a YouTube ab workout.

Now it’s back to tracking my progress on the Noom app. First thing – weigh in. Ugh! My least favorite thing to do!

I hopped on the scale first thing this morning and found that I hadn’t lost any weight, but I also didn’t gain any weight either. I’ll take it!

Lombard Street San Francisco

Lombard Street is a big tourist attraction in San Francisco. Everyone wants to stop and get a good look of the most crooked street in the world.

Lombard Street is known for the one-way block on Russian Hill between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets with eight sharp turns.

The red bricked road is flanked with beautiful hydrangeas and other foliage that thrives in the moist Bay Area climate.

Cars can enter the top of the street and proceed down going 5mph. Some vehicles, especially large ones, struggle to make the sharp turns. We watched some people riding in go carts having a great time easily making the tight turns.

A trolley can drop you off at the top or the Hop On Hop Off Bus can drop you off at the bottom. Walking the steep stairs is also a great experience.

We stayed in a condo in North Beach, so Lombard Street was in walking distance for us. It was a steep hike from our condo, but worth it.

Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco

Sometimes the most photographed bridge in the United States is not always picture perfect. For our stay in San Francisco, it was rather foggy, windy and cold. Locals call the fog “Carl The Fog”. While we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge is was freezing cold! I couldn’t believe we had these weather conditions in July!

Umbrella Alley, San Francisco

If you’re in San Francisco and you find yourself walking along Beach Street near Fisherman’s Warf, don’t miss stopping by Umbrella Alley! It’s located at Fisherman’s Wharf @ 757 Beach St near Hyde Street. I’m glad we discovered it! It’s fresh and inviting. There are vibrant interactive murals that are beautiful! Umbrellas are hanging above your head as you progress down the alley, hence the name “Umbrella Alley”. You’ll want to have your camera ready so you can take pictures of you and your friends interacting with the mural. It’s a lot of fun!

Noom Week 6

I made it through the 4th of July celebrations without making poor food choices. I hosted the party and supplied plenty of fruits and vegetables. This made it easy for me to not pig out on the sides brought by family members – potato salad, cake, ice cream.

I’m down 12 pounds and I’m back into a lot of summer clothes that didn’t fit me at the beginning of June. This is a big win for me! Thanks Noom!

Now, I’m just worried as we head out of town for a vacation that my progress might be at a standstill this upcoming week. I’m not worried about getting my steps in, but eating out for a lot of meals for a week. I guess this is the opportunity to really practice portion control. I’ll keep logging in my meals and water and just wish for the best!

4th of July Celebrations Continue on July 5th

This 4th of July weekend feels like it is never ending! This morning was the Layton Parade. We had worked really hard with the finishing touches on this float. It was fun to walk with the float and pass out candy to the kids. The only thing we didn’t plan on was how much candy you need! We ran out 20 minutes into the parade. Next time more candy is a must!

Super nice float – Great idea!

4th of July

With the 4th of July landing on a Sunday this year, we kept the day simple and had an extended family gathering at our house. Sandwiches and salads made the day complete.

Nieces and nephews came dressed in red, white & blue. So cute!

July 3rd – 4th of July Celebrations Begin

July 4th is on a Sunday this year. In Utah, that means celebrations will occur on Saturday, July 3rd and Monday, July 5th. We kicked off our weekend by going to the Kaysville City Parade. Noah was in the parade walking with his work float. it was really hard to see him, but when we did spot him it looked like he was having a great time. We waited in the hot sun with family and collected candy.

Fireworks at Barnes Park in Kaysville

On the evening of July 3rd, there was a fabulous fireworks display. We all gathered as an extended family to watch.

Our 28th Wedding Anniversary

It’s strange to think that Devin and I have been together for so long. 28 years is a pretty long time! When our anniversary rolls around, I don’t reflect on our relationship and the ups and downs. I always recall the day we got married. It was 1993. The hair was big. The wedding dresses were boofy and everyone had pretty much the same wedding colors – dusty pink and forest green. I never planned on getting married right after college, but I did. A big budget wedding was not in my reach. So, my wedding was on a very tight budget. With that tight budget came a lot of good memories.
